THE INSTITUT LYFE RESEARCH & INNOVATION CENTER IS LAUNCHING THE 2023 EDITION OF ITS SUMMER SCHOOL !

The Summer School is dedicated for doctoral students. This year, two face-to-face sessions are organized on Thursday, September 14, 2023. Session 1, in the morning, addresses the theme of Scientific Writing Techniques. For Session 2, in the afternoon, two options of practical workshops are possible: either on stress management, in French, or on how to present your thesis to a lay audience, in English.

All sessions are open within the limits of available places.

Program

Welcome coffee - 8.30 am 

Session 1 : Scientifique writing workshop - 9.00 am to 12.30 am

Martha Boeglin, Doctor in Philosophy, is expert in training PhD students in scientific literature review and writing their thesis. She also runs the blog Scriptoria.In this workshop you will discover writing techniques to improve:

• What makes writing well so challenging – and how to simplify the task.
• A way to overcome writer’s blocks.
• A technique to focus on the essentials.
• A method to transform the chaos of ideas into a structured text.
• How to make more in less time
• A technique to curb procrastination.

This session will be in English

Session 2  : How to present the PhD to a lay audience 

The aim of the session is to practice on how to present your PhD to a non-scientific audience.
You will be able to discuss various examples, to create your flyer, present your own work and get feed-back on your own document.
In this workshop, you will :

• Discuss examples of various projects
• Create a visual support of your work
• Present your PhD in 3 minutes
• Discuss with other participants on respective presentations

All together, this session will help you to improve your written and oral presentation skills to communicate the general public.
