Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (NVP) are among the most common symptoms experienced by pregnant individuals, yet they remain largely unexplored in the literature. With the pathophysiology of NVP poorly understood, treatment primarily focuses on symptom reduction, including dietary lifestyle changes: those affected by NVP frequently exhibit deficient nutrient intake, specific food preferences, and heightened sensitivity to taste and olfactory stimuli. However, it remains unclear whether these sensory alterations exacerbate NVP and what the longitudinal impacts of NVP are on eating behaviour. The PreVoPercep project aims to elucidate changes in food perception and eating behaviour in relation to the severity of NVP, with the goal of proposing specific food strategies to help alleviate symptoms. This talk will address the context of this project as well as the planned methodology. Anaëlle Venturini is a food science engineer with specialization in psychology and physiology of food choice determinants. Her research is oriented towards the study of food oral processing, sensory perception, and nutrition in populations with specific needs. Since February 2024, she has been pursuing a Ph.D. at the Institute Lyfe, where she is dedicated to understanding the food experience of pregnant individuals with varying severity levels of nausea and vomiting as part of the PreVoPercep project.
